Phil called me earlier in the week to tell me that he would be in town Saturday for a barbeque with a family friend and invited me to join in on the family festivities. After spending the morning with my dad and becoming the most spoiled art student at Flagler College, I jumped into Mr. Chesnick's SUV at the crosswalk on King and joined my "other" family. This is Mr. Dave Stinson and Phil's dad trying to fix the grill when we first got there. After looking around it became obvious that Diane Stinson (wifey) collects not only windchimes (count:9) but turtles. lots and lots of adorable turtles scattered about the outside decor and the kitchen.
I love this man. Phil's dad is a sweety pie. I've been calling him dad since Christmas. He's got big nice brown eyes and an easy laugh.
I loved this food face. She had ranch dressing all over her face a second before. damn reflexes.
Alright, this man. Dave Stinson, works with Phil's dad in Jacksonville. In honesty, after all this time, I still don't know what they do... Anyway. His wife Diane came down with a fever this afternoon and spent the afternoon asleep under a pile of blankets. So, while tending to her, he spent so much of his time serving all of us and asking me questions about Flagler, trying to get my name right. He fed us a cornucopia of food. When it got chilly we went inside and sat around talking while ignoring the cheerleaders on "bring it on: #1000" that was playing on the flat screen. Eventually it was switched to "Coyote Ugly" and they all agreed that we couldn't leave until I saw John Goodman dancing on the bar at the end. (The only downside of Dave Stinson is that for some reason the shape of his ball sack is unusually visible through his shorts.) At such time that it was time to think about parting ways... around 10.. Dave asks me if I've packed up any food to take with me and leads me back to the kitchen and starts pulling out plates.
THIS is what he puts together for me. hamburger, Sausage thingy, barbeque chicken, deviled eggs, complete with buns for all meat items. He then offers me a brownie (and of course, I'm not going to say no, right?) He brings over this brick of a brownie and immediatley i say "Damn! I am never eating again!" In response he cuts one of equal size and sets it down next to the first. I have enough brownies for forever. I'm not sharing unless you're a really really good friend. psssstttt...foil has really good fruit cake in it that Phil made.
Anyways, more importantly, these people made me feel entirely loved and reminded me that people really are willing to stick their neck out for other people. Dave told me that if I ever need anything, or need a place to go, his door is always open, whether they're there or not. He showed me where he hides the extra key to the door. I felt so wonderfully loved and damn, these have to be the sweetest people I have met in a long time. :D
Best Friend for always. He's going back day after tomorrow. I miss him already. <3
