I painted!

I've had this weird stigma lately about not painting because I feel that if I do, I really should be working on my commissions, which of course hold no interest for me.

I got over it.

I missed this.

Commission 2.

So i re-learned some fundamental things about myself. When I make paintings, I have to be patient and I have to baby-step into them. In the first Carmello's painting, I dived right in and began on the brick oven because I was excited to get into the paint mixing. Turns out, (and now i recall) that in order for me to do good and significantly less frustrating painting, I need a plan. I have to draw out everything, assess values, and then mix. I see such greater hope for this new painting. The drawing is 80% on there. I will continue to add details to the background and the elements on the table, but it just feels like it's in a good place. I've decided to devote all of Monday to applying the first real paint to it. I've discovered that layering pigment like Vermeer, fiddling with underpainting, is a waste of time for an impasto painter like myself. Anyway, I'm excited.

Tuesday and part of Wednesday I'm going on a roadtrip to Atlanta with my Best Good Friend, Yoda (Theresa.) And I will enjoy the change of scene, company, and music before returning to my painting. We'll see how it goes. :)

When Doves Cry

I stretched canvas around the beautiful 5ft by 3 ft frame Russell helped me make yesterday. And now it's staring at me from the corner of the room. o.o It says, "I'm a blank canvas. Please, love me." It's full of hope and promise. Sadly, I have to finish the pizza thrower painting first. I'm having trouble drawing the fat little guy. He's got to be the right height with the brick oven, but he's the foreground so he can be bigger and lower. The balance is difficult. Plus I'm countering the fact that he has to go somewhere moderately in the middle of the canvas...and I need that to not look like crap.

On the bright side, my horoscope site says that I'm going to meet a person who will act as a healer for me. A positive influence is headed my way.

I'm going to get to work. And update more.

Loren's Paintings and Drawings

Loren sent these to me (well, i guess now it was yesterday). He said that he appreciated that I always pester him about what he's working on when I run into him. And I guess on a whim he decided to share. I think they deserve to be seen. Given, I think the only other person who looks at this blog is Russell, but hey, I got to one more person. Loren told me once that his art is the result of Mondrian's work, if Phillip Guston put his foot through it.
